On the way of the Giro d'Italia, a classic road bike tour: the Passo Manghen

This route was cycled through during various editions of the Giro d’Italia - the Italian national cycling competitions - and it is featured by mild grades. Once you reach Telve, the road follows the left orographic riverside of Maso. The first part crosses thick pine forests, till Baessa. The most difficult parts are on Km 20 and Km 22, where the grade is close to 14%. But you will be close to the finishing line! After the last effort, at Km 23.7 a sudden slop will welcome you and the ascent is over: the Manghen Pass is there!

Safety information

Manghen Pass is normally closed from November 2nd to April 30th. Please inform yourself before departure.

Give your bike a regular checkup, especially if you've had it for years.

Be seen: you must wear a high vis jacket (or sash) in tunnels and on country roads after sunset.

Always wear your helmet.

Make sure your front and rear lights are working.

Put out your arm to give advance warning of your intention to change position and before you do anything, check there are no vehicles coming up behind you.

Don't use headphones or your mobile phone handsfree kit: you need all your concentration on the road!

Obey the road signs: stop at traffic lights and don't ride on the wrong side of the road.

If you are cycling in a group, always go in single file.

Please note that the practicability of the itineraries in a mountain environment is strictly linked to the contingent conditions and is therefore influenced by natural phenomena, environmental changes and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this page may have changed. Before leaving for a tour, make sure the path you will approach is still accessible by contacting the owner of the mountain hut, the alpine guides or the visitor centres of the nature parks, the info offices of the local tourist board.

From the Via Giovannelli car park, take the cycle path that leads to Via del Serà. Then turn right into Corso Vicenza and after about 200 meters turn left into Via Prati. Continue until you get on via per Telve. Reach the town of Telve and continue along the SP 31 until you reach Malga Valtrighetta and then, after a few challenging hairpin bends, the Passo Manghen and the refuge where you can take a relaxing break before the return.

Possible variations of the route: If you do not want to come back walking along the same route, you can descend to Molina di Fiemme, go towards Val Floriana, reach Pergine and come back along the Valsugana cycling path. You will be back to the starting point.
