Loop hike between the spectacular Dolomite walls of the Latemar Massif. The tour takes its name from the leaning rock towers like the one in the Tuscan city.

Latemar Massiv is on the border between Trentino and South Tyrol Regions. From the geological point of view it is an atoll which emerged form the tropical sea. That is why it is possible to find ammonites and shells in the rocks.

The highest peak is the Torre Diamantidi (2,842 m). The excursion to Torre di Pisa allows you to immerse yourself in this .... sea of rocks! white, outstretched to the sky, eternal, as only the Dolomites can be.

Author’s recommendation

The best place to take a pic of the famous Torre di Pisa is the flat area behind the mountain hut.

Do not miss the classic photography that, playing with perspective, allows you to sustain the tower with one hand!

Turn-by-turn directions

There are two starting points for this route:

  1. the Latemar chairlift in Pampeago
  2. the cable car Latemar MontagnAnimata from Predazzo

From Pampeago take Latemar chairlift (open from mid-June to mid-September) and from the top of the chairlift (2.010 m) take trail No. 504 for Passo Feudo (2.175 m). Passo Feudo can also be reached from Predazzo by cable car and chairlift (both open from mid-June to mid-September).

From Passo Feudo take trail No. 516 leading to Rifugio Torre di Pisa (2.671 m). Just beyond the refuge and still on trail No. 516, Torre di Pisa, a huge spur of rock that leans just like the famous tower of the same name, can be seen to the left.

Continue along trail No. 516 as far as Forcella dei Camosci (2.590 m) and here branch left onto trail No. 18 leading down to Oberholz chairlift and Oberholz mountain hut.

To return to Passo Feudo, follow trail No. 22; to return to Pampeago take trail No. 23 to Mayrl Alm (Alpine dairy) and then the surfaced road as far as Latemar chairlift.

Question about Giovanni Busarello · June 09, 2020 · Community
