The rediscovery of the rural history of the valley with its “water machines” along Rio dei Molini from Grumes to Grauno
The valley of the brook Rio dei Molino between Grumes and Grauno has a concentration of at least 20 water-powered machines as mills, sawmills and forges, with four rebuilt factories and an exhibition hall dedicated to the water-related crafts. The trail Sentiro degli Antichi Mestieri (Trail of Traditional Crafts) connects these buildings giving the visitors the unforgettable suggestions of a unique environmental and historical landscape. The trail has been developed across the valley Valle dell’Avisio and is divided into two parts: the first part, of historical and ethnographic interest, is located along the brook Rio Molino between Grumes and Grauno, the second part, with a main environmental interest, starts at the new bridge over the creek Avisio between Grumes and Sover and ends in the town of Piscine.
Author’s recommendation
The best way to have a visit of Sentiero dei Vecchi Mestieri (Trail of Traditional Crafts) is in guided tour with a mid-mountain guide who can open these buildings and make some of these old factory work. You can find all events with guided tour on website of Rete di Riserve or on Vivigrumes.
A deserved stop on the way to or back is Green Grill – Info e Sapori (Info and Taste) and the house of Rete di Riserve (Reserves Network) on the main road S.S. 612 to taste or buy local products, receive more information on the area, enjoy a view of the valley from the wonderful panoramic terrace.
A stop that deserves a visit is the biological farm Giove Officinali (www.gioveofficinali.com) reachable with a short detour which deals with the grown of medical plants on ancient terracing fields.

The starting point of this itinerary is the town Grumes. From Piazza del Municipio (town hall square), the central square of the town, turn right and take the road going slightly uphill in front of the hostel L’Ost-Ostello and the food shop Famiglia Cooperativa. Go up until you reach the main road S.S. 612, cross the street and take the road going up into the wood. From here go straight ahead until you reach a crossroads where you can find the road signs to the mill Mulino Cristofori - Grauno - Sentiero dei Vecchi Mestieri. Follow the signs until your reach the brook Rio dei Molini. After a bridge a road signs indicates the way to the farm Giove Officinali in 3 minutes-walk time. Continuing on the trail you will cross a paved road. From here you can choose either to go back to the starting point taking the road uphill or to go down to the farm Maso La Rio and the creek Avisio (coming back the same way to this point).
Trained people can go further on the trail Sentiero dei Vecchi Mestieri, which from the creek Avisio goes further on the opposite side of the valley among suggestive landscapes to Piscine, a hamlet of Sover town.

To drive here from Trento, you need to follow the main road S.S. 612 north to Grumes. The parking place is near the mixed-use building “Le Fontanelle”.
To drive here from the valley Val di Fiemme, you need to follow the main road S.S. 612 south to Grumes. The parking place is near the mixed-use building “Le Fontanelle”.
