This itinerary takes you to Dossone di Cembra, site of some of the Trentino region’s most attractive and precious peat bogs, ancient glacial origin lakes on which thick layers of peat have built up. The peat bog’s plant life, formed of carpets of highly unusual mosses and tiny, ultra-rare marsh plants, is unique. Lac del Vedes in Grumes is certainly one of the most attractive and best conserved peat bogs in the Trentino region. A visit itinerary which includes wooden walkways and educational info panels explaining the site’s rarities and how the peat bog formed starts here.

Author’s recommendation

This itinerary takes to the big hill Dossone di Cembra, where you can find some of the most beautiful and precious peat bogs of Trentino area. They are ancient glacier lakes where, after a natural process, thick peat layers produced by the water plants over the millennia gathered together. The peat bog vegetation is composed by unique moss types and rare marsh plants.

The lake Lac del Vedes in Grumes is certainly one of the most beautiful and better conserved peat bogs of the all Trentino area. The guided tour with wooden platforms and information panels describes the local rarities and the origin of the peat bog.

Turn-by-turn directions

The itinerary starts from Grumes square. From here you go up towards the church and then, after crossing the SS. 612, towards the Masi di Grumes. After the artisan area, follow the path that leads to the Baita Penna Nera and then the signs for Valdonega.

Continue uphill along a paved road until you reach the Valdonega meadows, an area with characteristic mountain huts. At the capital, follow the signs for Lac del Vedes.
