Juribrutto Lake
Pleasant excursion to Lake Juribrutto through forests and high mountain pastures. The highest point of this route offers an exceptional view of the Pale di San Martino and the Focobòn.
This short and simple itinerary takes in a fairly remote corner of the Paneveggio - Pale di San Martino Nature Park. The pastures dotted with pines offer a pleasant, unspoilt and usually uncrowded spot.
The panorama sweeps from the majestic Pale di San Martino to the splendid Val Venegia, extending southwards to the Lagorai chain. When you reach the lake, you can admire the Dolomite peaks reflected in its calm waters. The name definitely does not do justice to this solitary pearl, which in fine weather is framed by rhododendrons. A picnic lunch on the shores of the lake contributes to making this hike simply unique.
Author’s recommendation
The first part of the trail follows a mule track from the First World War. A careful look will also notice the remains of war posts.

Turn-by-turn directions
The hike starts alongside Malga Vallazza, located on the Passo Valles road. The first part of the route (path no. 631) climbs up through mixed woodland until it comes out in a pasture furrowed by the Rio Vallazza. Continue uphill along an old military mule track to the Lastè di Juribrutto.
Once the saddle is reached, the route continues slightly downhill through wide pastures, reaching a couple of small lakes. To the left of the small lakes (on the southern side) are remains and trenches from the Great War. From here, it is possible to admire the Civetta, the Pale di San Martino with the imposing Mount Mùlaz, as well as a large part of the Lagorai chain. Continue along path no. 631 until you reach Lake Juribrutto lying in a hollow.
After a break, continue downhill along path N° 629 which runs alongside the Juribrutto stream until you reach the Malga Juribrutto (closed). From here the last part of the route follows path No. 623, which, entirely in the wood, cuts across the coast slightly uphill and leads back to the Malga Vallazza.
