To the Rifugio Torre di Pisa
On this hike with cable car support, we climb the rugged Latemar Mountains, the first Dolomite massif east of Bolzano, and pay a visit to the only refuge in this mountain group. After the ascent with the chairlift from Obereggen, we first climb steeply in serpentines under the walls of the Eggentaler Horn to the high cirque of the Gamsstall. Through a tangle of rock debris and a steep rock gully we climb to the Gamsstallscharte. Along the scree slopes above the karst landscape of the Valsorda basin, we reach from here in a southerly direction the small Forcella Valsorda with a view of the leaning rock tower Torre di Pisa and the rock window Porta del Latemar. Now it is not far via the summit of Cima Cavognin to our destination for the day, the Rifugio Torre di Pisa, beautifully situated below the summit. After we have had our fill of the impressive panorama and stopped at the hut for a portion of pasta, we start the way back. This first leads steeply downhill over stony terrain before
